How to Choose a Nutraceutical Contract Manufacturer in India

How to Choose a Nutraceutical Contract Manufacturer in India — Medkyn Lifecare

Choosing a contract manufacturer in India is hard for a reason that has nothing to do with manufacturing: almost nobody publishes the facts you need to compare them. Minimum order quantities, lead times and unit prices are all held back until you make contact. This piece sets out the six questions that actually decide the outcome, and compares what the manufacturers ranking for this search do and do not state publicly.

Who wrote this, and why that matters. Medkyn Lifecare is a nutraceutical manufacturer. We are in the table below. We are not a neutral reviewer and you should not read us as one.

So here is the method instead of a promise. Every row was read off that company's own public website on 1 November 2026. The certifications column reports what each company states — we have not audited anyone's certificates, including the claims others make about us. The table is sorted alphabetically, not ranked, because a ranking published by a participant is worth nothing. We have not included any company whose site we did not actually read, which is why this is four companies and not a round ten.

The six questions that decide the outcome

Most buyers open with "what is your price per unit?" It is the wrong first question, because the answer is meaningless until the specification is fixed. These six are the ones that actually separate suitable partners from unsuitable ones.

  1. What is your MOQ for my dosage form, per SKU? Per SKU is the part that matters. A 10,000-unit minimum across three flavours is a very different commitment from 10,000 of each.
  2. Does that change if the formula is new? It almost always does. Development and validation have to be paid for by the run, so custom formulations carry a higher floor than stock ones.
  3. Who holds the manufacturing licence for the line my product runs on? Plenty of companies that present themselves as manufacturers are marketing their own brand and outsourcing production. That is legal and often fine — but you should know it, because it determines who is accountable when a batch fails.
  4. Will you send me a recent batch Certificate of Analysis? Not a sample template. A real COA for a real batch of something similar to your product. A manufacturer with a working quality system will send one without hesitating.
  5. What is the realistic timeline from signed brief to dispatch? For an existing formula, 8–14 weeks is normal in India. Anyone promising four weeks is either not counting artwork and procurement, or is about to disappoint you.
  6. What are the packaging minimums, separately? Printed cartons and labels frequently carry print-run minimums larger than your first production batch. This is the cost that surprises first-time brand owners most often.

What the market actually publishes

Below is what each company states on its own website. The pattern is the finding: certifications are advertised prominently, and the three numbers a buyer needs in order to plan — minimum order, price, lead time — are almost universally withheld.

Why "not published" is itself information

There is a fair reason not to publish unit pricing. Cost genuinely moves with the grade of the actives, the packaging and the batch size, and a single headline figure would need so many caveats that it would mislead more than it helped. We do not publish ours either, for exactly that reason.

MOQ is different. On any given line, the minimum viable run is a fixed operational fact. A manufacturer knows it, it does not change per enquiry, and it is the single piece of information most likely to tell a brand owner that this partnership cannot work. Withholding it is a choice to capture the enquiry first and disqualify the buyer later — after a call, a form and a few days.

That choice costs the buyer more than the manufacturer. If your first run is 2,000 units because that is what your launch budget supports, you will spend a fortnight discovering that four manufacturers out of five were never an option.

How to verify a manufacturer yourself

Certification logos on a website are claims, not evidence. The checks below take about an hour in total and are worth doing before any money changes hands.

Red flags

Any one of these is reason enough to stop, regardless of how good the price is:

Common questions

What is a typical MOQ for nutraceutical contract manufacturing in India?

Across the Indian market a common floor is 5,000–10,000 units per SKU for an existing formulation, and 25,000 or more for a custom one that needs development and validation. Sachets are often quoted in kilograms of blend rather than units, which for a 3 g sachet can mean 33,000 units or more. Very few manufacturers publish their figure, so you will usually have to ask.

Why do so few manufacturers publish their MOQ or pricing?

Partly because unit pricing genuinely moves with the actives, packaging and batch size, so any single figure needs caveats. Partly because a quote request is a sales lead, and publishing the number means some buyers self-select out before the manufacturer can talk to them. The first reason is fair for pricing. It is much weaker for MOQ, which is a fixed operational fact on any given line.

How do I verify a manufacturer's certifications?

Ask for the certificate itself, not a logo on a website. A WHO-GMP certificate names the facility and the dosage forms it covers, and it carries an expiry date — check that the form you need is actually listed. An FSSAI licence number can be checked on the FSSAI portal. Then ask for a recent batch Certificate of Analysis for a product similar to yours; a manufacturer with a real quality system will send one without hesitating.

Should I choose a manufacturer near me?

Proximity matters less than people expect for routine supply, but it matters a great deal during the first production run and during any dispute. Being able to visit, walk the line and meet the QA head in person is worth real money, and you learn more in one visit than in ten calls. If you cannot visit, at minimum insist on a video walkthrough of the actual line rather than a corporate video.

What should make me walk away from a manufacturer?

Refusing to share a batch Certificate of Analysis, quoting a price before asking what your actives are, offering a "quality certificate" without batch numbers and test results, or describing a facility they do not own as theirs. Any one of these is enough to stop. The last one is common and hardest to spot, which is why asking who holds the manufacturing licence for the specific line is worth doing early.

Where we stand

We publish our minimums because we think the alternative wastes everybody's time: 3,000 units per SKU for an existing formulation, 10,000 for a new one, across tablets, chewables, capsules, soft gels and sachets. Liquids, topicals and powders are quoted per project. The full table is on our contract manufacturing page, alongside the dosage forms and categories we make.

That is a real commitment rather than a marketing line, and it cuts both ways — if your first run is below 3,000 units we are not the right partner, and you now know that without having to ask. We would rather you found out here than after three calls.

lightbulb The short version
  • Ask for MOQ per SKU, and separately for packaging print-run minimums.
  • Establish who holds the manufacturing licence for your line, early.
  • A real batch COA, sent without hesitation, is the strongest single signal you can get.
  • 8–14 weeks from brief to dispatch is normal for an existing formula in India.
  • Certifications are advertised; the numbers you need to plan are usually not. Ask for them in writing before you commit.
